What is the Family Housing Program?

The Family Housing Program is a one-year transitional housing program designed to

support families with minor children experiencing homelessness reach permanent

housing, economic stability, and independence. This program provides a safe

environment with access to support services to meet parents and children’s needs.

How do I apply for the Family Housing program?

You will need to provide the following:

  • Photo ID’s for adults

  • Birth certificates for adults and children

  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)

  • DCFS case paperwork/proof of custody (if applicable)

  • Proof of Calworks, Calfresh, and Medi-Cal (if applicable)

How long will it take to hear back after applying for a Transitional Housing program?

When you submit your application, the response time depends on when you apply:

  • Applications submitted before 5:00pm PST:
    You’ll receive a call from us on the same day.

  • Applications submitted after 5:00pm PST or on weekends:
    You’ll hear back within 48 hours.

How long will it take to get in once I've conducted the Transitional Housing interview?

An average of 1-2 weeks for Dream Center Discipleship, Veterans, and Foster Youth.

We have a waitlist on average of 3-6 months for Family housing.

Do you offer immediate family housing?

No, we have a waitlist on average of 3-6 months for Family housing.

Are the Transitional Housing programs free?

All Dream Center Transitional Housing programs including Discipleship, Foster Youth, Family Floor, and Veterans programs are free for the participant(s).

What are the restrictions for Family Housing program attendees?

  • Pets or emotional support animals are prohibited.
    Only service animals with proof of papers are allowed.

  • Cigarettes and vaping are prohibited.
    We are a smoke-free facility.

Do I have my own kitchen as a resident in the Family Housing program?

No, but all Transitional Housing programs offer a cafeteria on campus that serves 3 meals per day free of charge. This is referred to as the Carey Kitchen or the DC Diner.

Can I bring my boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/fiance to the program with me?

No, only legally married couples and their minor children are admitted to the Family Housing program are permitted.
